Floyd Mayweather, Manny Pacquiao, Oscar De La Hoya and Canelo Alvarez are modern greats of the sport.
34-year-old Canelo is approaching his 68th professional fight since making his debut as a 15-year-old boy back in 2005.
Since entering the paid ranks, Canelo has captured world titles across four weight classes, including the undisputed super-middleweight championship which he won for the second time with a victory over William Scull back in May.
The Mexican great also boasts victories over the likes of Miguel Cotto, Erislandy Lara, Jermell Charlo and Gennady Golovkin to name a few, facing the latter on three occasions between 2017 and 2022. He has lost just twice, to Floyd Mayweather and Dmitry Bivol.
Now, Alvarez is just over one month away from doing battle with fellow pound-for-pound star Terence Crawford on Saturday September 13 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Though Crawford will be jumping out two weight classes for the challenge, it is safe to say he is not being underestimated.
In a feature with The Ring Magazine, Canelo made no mistake in revealing that he believes his next rival is a better fighter than the likes of Mayweather, Manny Pacquiao and Oscar De La Hoya.
The Mexican icon was tasked with staying silent until he heard the name of a better fighter than Crawford, and he didn’t speak quiet when all three names were mentioned.
Should Crawford be victorious against Canelo, the unbeaten American superstar will become the first male fighter in boxing history to capture all four belts in three weight classes.
