Leeds United’s opening fixture against Everton will see both sides in the midst of drastic overhauls for different reasons, and David Moyes has big spending planned right now.

Daniel Farke’s comments post-Villarreal depict a man well aware that he needs much more in the transfer market before he can confidently say his side is geared up for a survival bid.

Up first for Leeds are another side that are also some way off having a ‘complete’ squad, David Moyes’ Everton.

Everton manager David Moyes makes parallel transfer comment to Leeds United’s Daniel Farke

Farke made it clear that his attack is currently not of the standard required to survive in the Premier League, and with a fortnight between now and Leeds’ clash with Everton, action is of course required.

The same has been said by Moyes of his Toffees squad after seven senior exits with just £3.5million coming in, plus four loanees that won’t be returning (Jack Harrison one of those).

With Moyes’ side out in the US for pre-season, he said this about their current setup ahead of the new season and a trip to Elland Road:

“There could be teething problems at the start,” he said, via the BBC. “Whether it be the stadium, whether it be with new owners, whether it be all sorts of things coming in.

“All Evertonians are looking to the future now. They don’t want to look back on the past. We want to believe that something better is ahead of us. I think it will be better. My job is to give them a team to enjoy coming to watch. I thought we might have been a bit further down the line by now, but we’re not.”

Everton pushing for £70million Dewsbury-Hall, Dibling swoops ahead of Leeds United meeting

Both Moyes and Farke have laid down the line with wanting signings through the doors soon, and the Everton boss could get his wish soon, particularly higher up the pitch in support of Iliman Ndiaye, Beto and co.

A third bid has been lodged for Southampton’s teenage starlet Tyler Dibling amounting to £40million including add-ons, with other reports sharing that the Toffees are aiming to secure an agreement soon with the Saints.

Elsewhere, talks have progressed for Everton to sign Chelsea fringe player Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall on a permanent deal, as Fabrizio Romano reveals an agreement with the Blues for the attacking midfielder on a £29million overall sum:

Dewsbury-Hall’s move to Everton would see him rekindle his self-made rivalry with Leeds, having gone on the wind-up as Leicester won promotion ahead of the Whites in April 2024, as he then left Leicester before their abysmal relegation.

Off the back of Thierno Barry arriving from Villarreal for £27million, Everton could boast a new look attack when they travel to LS11 on August 18th, and their progress towards £69million of further signings should have Leeds taking note as Farke assesses his plans for the start to next season.
