Britain was battered by the elements as Storm Floris swept through the country.

Greater Manchester escaped the worst of the storm yesterday (August 4), with fierce 82 mph gusts recorded at Wick Airport, in northern Scotland.

But our region still faced plenty of disruption – with trees blown down, tram and train lines flooded, and even a possible tornado reported in Chorlton.

Conditions are expected to be much calmer across the country today (Tuesday) – with the final Met Office weather warning for Storm Floris, in Scotland’s Orkney and Shetland, coming to an end at 8am.

However, Greater Manchester is still forecast to see some wet weather and wind gusts of more than 40 mph, according to the Met Office.

Showers are forecast throughout the morning and lunchtime, making way for sunny intervals from around 3pm.

More changeable weather is on the cards on Thursday, with the Met Office forecasting an overcast start to the day before spells of light rain, showers and some gusty winds, making way for sunny intervals from around 4pm. Highs of 20C are forecast.

The weekend is expected to be more settled, with dry, sunny intervals forecast for Friday, Saturday and Sunday in Greater Manchester, and temperatures climbing to 23C on Sunday.
