Florian Wirtz has arrived at Liverpool as the biggest signing of the summer so far.
Alexander Isak has been linked to Liverpool in what could be an even bigger transfer, but, so far,
The German has joined Liverpool in a British-record deal, and it’s fair to say the excitement is palpable ahead of his Premier League debut.
Florian Wirtz arrives with plenty of top-level experience under his belt, he’s a German international who has played Champions League football for Bayer Leverkusen.
Speaking to JD Sports, Wirtz has been asked to name who the toughest player he has faced in his career is, and he gave a rather interesting answer.
Indeed, according to Wirtz, his toughest opponent of all-time is none other than his new Liverpool teammate, Alexis Mac Allister.

Wirtz was asked to name his toughest opponent ever.
The German has played against some great players during his time in the Bundesliga such as Joshua Kimmich and Joao Palhinha.
However, according to Wirtz, it was Mac Allister who gave him his toughest test in the Champions League last season.
“Who is the hardest opponent you have faced?” Wirtz was asked.
“Maybe Mac Allister in the last game we played against Liverpool in the Champions League, it was really tough against him,” Wirtz said.
Alexis Mac Allister stats vs Bayer Leverkusen
It’s not surprising to hear Wirtz pick out a Liverpool player as his toughest opponent. After all, the German lost 4-0 to the Reds last season.
Indeed, Wirtz and his Bayer Leverkusen teammates were played off the park by Arne Slot’s side last season, and, unsurprisingly, Mac Allister was at the heart of that, as the stats show.
Mac Allister is a fantastic player who, somehow, remains rather underrated in certain circles.
Luckily, Wirtz won’t have to worry about playing against Mac Allister in the future, these two are now teammates at Liverpool and will be playing together rather than as rivals.
Wirtz and Mac Allister could now make up one of the very best midfield pairings in the Premier League.
