Money raised by the events will go to charity CALM (Campaign Against Living Miserably), which is dedicated to preventing male suicide, and Papyrus, which is focused on preventing suicide among young people.

The 262-mile (422km) challenge included runs in Middlesbrough, York, Hull, Leeds, Manchester, Liverpool, Stoke and Nottingham.

Mr Wild said he “didn’t run a single mile alone”, with supporters joining him across various stretches of the route.

“It was amazing and I was blown away by everyone who turned out – I literally couldn’t have done it without them,” he said.

He added he was grateful to see “so many loved ones” as the challenge drew to a close in Sheffield.

He said he was now planning to stay “horizontal for as much as possible” as part of his recovery.
