Alex Cochrane in action for Birmingham City against Crawley
Alex Cochrane reached a personal milestone in Birmingham City’s draw with Crawley by making his 50th appearance of the season – a target he set himself back in August.
The left-back has been a mainstay in Blues’ XI this season and has had to plug away without competition for much of it due to Lee Buchanan’s injury.
Cochrane may now get a breather after Lee Myung-jae finally made his debut as a substitute against Crawley.
Opening up on his personal target for the season, Cochrane said: “It was to get 50 games and to hit 50 for this club is a real privilege for myself. The most I had before was 46, so hitting 50 was always a target for me.
“It’s been enjoyable and definitely one to remember. Coming here it was just about trying to get into the team and play, and I’ve been lucky enough to play as many games as I have, but there’s still more to finish off the season.”
Blues manager Chris Davies paid tribute to Cochrane in his post-match press conference.
“Alex has been one of our stars this season,” said Davies. “He’s probably been the best left-back in the league.
“He’s such a reliable player, I think that’s where you’d put Alex. He’s always strong defensively, a lovely left-foot, can pop up with an assist, and he’s a great character.
“I think he’s the type that will grow and grow at this club and be one of those players that will rack up a lot of games and people will think very fondly of him.”
