From bhangra to hip hop, voguing, or even dad dancing, we all have our own special way of moving. This weekend, you can take part in the ultimate expression of dance, with Birmingham set to host the Red Bull Dance Your Style UK final—as well as free dance workshops and a special performance from Panjabi MC.

The world’s biggest street dance battle, where the crowd decides the winner, will take place in Centenary Square on Saturday, August 9. Only the very best will advance to the next round, the World Finals in Los Angeles this October. This fance-off includes local dancer, Bella Chieza, who earned a place at the final as a wildcard entry.

“Birmingham always shows huge appreciation and support for the arts, so I have absolutely no doubt they’ll love the event and feel a sense of pride in it being hosted in their city!” Bella said. “I’m from nearby Wolverhampton, and the scene there is quite small but precious and growing, especially now compared to what was available when I first started dancing.”

Outside of the competition, Red Bull is bringing a series of free dance performances and workshops to the day—including voguing, krumping, and hip-hop. Widely considered to be the home of British Bhangra, Birmingham will also host a Bhangra workshop and performance showcase.

The West Midlands’ very own Panjabi MC will also perform a special half-time set, including his international hit song “Mundian To Bach Ke”, which was used in the winning performance from last year’s Red Bull Dance Your Style World Final in Mumbai. Panjabi MC will perform several of his hits at the competition.

“I’m really honoured to be involved with Red Bull as they bring this epic dance event to the Midlands,” said Panjabi MC. “ I think it’s amazing to include Bhangra dance in this – Bhangra music is all about dancing. This, combined with krump, hip-hop, popping, all the different styles, it’s going to be cool to see.”
