A climber has been injured and is in hospital after falling from the cliff face of Avon Gorge.
Police, firefighters and paramedics were called to the scene around 5.20pm yesterday evening, Wednesday, August 6, above the Portway road in the Shirehampton area of Bristol.
Rope teams were called to rescue the climber and four others stranded on the side of the cliff.
The climber who fell was taken to hospital. The extent of their injuries has not been reported by emergency services.
A spokesperson for Avon Fire and Rescue Service said: “Rope rescue teams were called at 5.17pm on Wednesday 6 August to an incident near the Portway, Bristol, where a person had fallen while climbing.
“Crews worked with police and ambulance colleagues to rescue four people from the cliff face.
“One person was taken to hospital. “Firefighters from Avon Fire and Rescue Service were supported by South Wales Fire & Rescue Service.”
One witness said: “Person injured on Portway. Massive emergency services response.”
