A MANIAC cabbie launched a brazen broad daylight revenge hit outside a Glasgow court – mowing down a man who scammed him out of thousands.

Awet Teame, 32, was caught on his own dash-cam as he carried out the horror hit-and-run on Bekezela Ncube on March 1 last year.

The shock incident unfolded on the same day Mr Ncube was due to stand trial for conning Teame out of nearly £9,000 – but the furious driver took justice into his own hands.

The High Court in Glasgow heard how the private hire driver lay in wait for Mr Ncube to turn up at the city’s Sheriff Court on March 1, 2024.

In graphic footage captured by his car‘s camera, Teame sped towards the man, mounted the pavement, and sent him sprawling across the bonnet of his Mercedes Citan.

Mr Ncube fortunately escaped without any serious injury.

Teame, from Shettleston and originally from Eritrea, initially fled the scene, but in a bizarre twist, returned to court hours later, calmly signed in as a witness, shook hands with people, and even sat near police officers before being arrested.

The first time offender is now behind bars after he pleaded guilty – via his lawyer Duncan McPhie – to an attempted murder charge on Thursday.

Teame is due to be sentenced next month.

The High Court in Glasgow heard how Mr Ncube had conned Teame out of £8,721 of cash in late 2021.

Mr Ncube was later charged with a number of frauds.

A trial – previously postponed a number of times – was due to take place on the day of the crime.

Teame had been due to testify as a witness and drove to court that morning.

He initially remained in his motor in nearby Carlton Place for around 40 minutes before driving away and then returning shortly after.

Mr Ncube was soon spotted heading towards the court building.

Prosecutor Christopher Wilson then explained: “Teame noticed him and began to rev the engine of his vehicle.

“While Mr Ncube was midway across the road, Teame accelerated towards him.

“Mr Ncube ran, but was struck on the left side of his body.

“The collision occurred while Mr Ncube was on the pavement. He was lifted up off his feet onto the bonnet.”

Footage of the incident from the dashcam and a CCTV camera was played in court yesterday,

Mr Ncube was briefly knocked out after being hit.

But, he managed to get back to his feet and run towards steps leading to the court.

Mr Wilson said: “At this point, Teame drove the vehicle forward and to the left in an attempt to strike Mr Ncube as he went past.

“The vehicle collided with the wall in front of it while Mr Ncube ran up the steps.”

Teame reversed and done a U-turn away from the scene. He damaged the wheel of his car as he carried out the manoeuvre.

Mr Ncube meantime alerted police at the sheriff court what had happened.

He was soon taken to hospital and luckily only found to have suffered grazes to his hand as well as tenderness across his body.

Teame later calmly returned to the Sheriff court and checked in to be a witness, even shaking hands with people and sitting next to police.

But, it was at court, Teame was held by other officers following reports of the attack.

The hearing yesterday was told Mr Ncube was eventually convicted in January 2025 for a string of frauds, given 300 hours of unpaid work, and ordered to pay back cash to the very man who tried to run him down.
