Manchester United striker Rasmus Hojlund has appeared to like a transfer update regarding the pursuit of Benjamin Sesko. The Slovenian has been at the forefront of speculation this summer but it appears that Old Trafford will be his destination after turning down a move to Newcastle United.
According to reports, Ruben Amorim is closing in on his third major summer signing after striking an agreement in principle to sign the RB Leipzig star. The Athletic have claimed that a deal worth €75.6million (£65.5m) with €8.5m (£7.4m) in add-ons has been agreed to bolster United’s attacking force.
Bryan Mbeumo became the second summer arrival after his long-anticipated switch from Brentford was completed, but the deal to bring Matheus Cunha to the Theatre of Dreams was much more seamless as his release clause was triggered.
The move for Sesko was widely reported with Fabrizio Romano posting regular updates across his social media channels.
His post on Instagram regarding a supposed agreement to sign Sesko attracted over 1.2million likes.
It appeared that a social media account linked with Hojlund liked the post, despite the attacker’s arrival posing fresh competition for a starting berth.
Rasmus Hojlund appeared to have liked a report surrounding Man United’s interest in Rasmus Hojlund.
The MEN reported on Wednesday that the former Atalanta striker is resigned to being forced out by Manchester United if the 22-year-old completes a move to Old Trafford.
It’s understood that sources close to the Denmark international have conceded that if Hojlund is unwanted it could lift his game, but ultimately, he may have to seek a move before the transfer deadline at the beginning of September.
A lack of minutes would also throw up uncertainty over a place in Denmark’s squad. The Dane’s are set to qualify for the expanded World Cup next year and the attacker lost his place in the team in June after a run of one goal in 15 games for the national team.
Speaking during the recent pre-season tour in America, Hojlund expressed his desire to stay and fight for his place in Amorim’s side.
“I think my plan is very clear and that is for me to stay and fight for my spot, whatever happens,” he said.
“I’m still very young. I think people forget that sometimes. I’m only 22.
“Obviously, not every striker is scoring 100 goals at the age of 22 (like Erling Haaland).
“But I’ve learned a lot, I think you can see in my game. I’m starting to develop and become even better in the basics.
“Now it’s just about for me to sharpen myself and I’ve done very well in the pre-season so far. Just focusing on continuing that.
“Competition is fine with me. It sharpens me. I’m more than ready. I’m feeling sharp, so I’m welcoming everything that comes. I think it’s good with competition and it only sharpens the team.”
