Late Queen with Harry and Meghan at Palace

When Prince Harry went to his grandmother with a request, asking that he be able to pull back on his royal duties, Queen Elizabeth II‘s answer was “no,” which one royal expert believes to have been a mistake.

Former royal photographer Ian Pelham Turner, who worked at the Palace back in the day, doesn’t blame the late Queen, he believes she was ill-advised.

When speaking to Mr Pelham Turner over Zoom, he said: “I think old style thinking is where we’ve got this situation now, think the Queen was very badly advised, I really do, I think the Queen was very badly advised over Harry and Meghan,” referring to the Sussexes resigning from their roles as senior working members of the royal family and moving to the US in 2020.

While looking backwards and talking about what went wrong won’t change anything, it may help with moving forward, that members of the Royal Family may be looking at the decision in the same way and may be open for reconcilation, suggests Pelham Turner.

He said: “I wonder, whether or not, on reflection, what had happened when the Queen was alive, and Meghan really didn’t feel wanted in Britain, in any way, shape or form, this is the allegation, that perhaps they’ve had a reflecting on that period.”

Harry has been gone for five years

Harry’s been gone for five years, living in the US with his wife and two children. Now, there’s talk of the Duke wanting to reconcile with his estranged family and spend more time in the UK.

We asked the royal commentator about Harry, and if he does want to go home with him, providing a one-word answer, simply saying: “Absolutely.”

Clearly, there are a lot of moving parts, and it’s not as simple as getting on a plane and showing up at the Palace. It’s a matter of whether or not Harry would be welcomed.

Charles wants Harry, Meghan and the children back in with him

Pelham Turner believes Charles does want Harry and Meghan and the children back in England with him.

The royal expert said: “What I do believe, from what we’re hearing behind the scenes, right now, is that, I feel personally, is that Charles wants to see Harry and Meghan back, and the children, because he’s very sentimental, you know, he’s very much a family person.

He added: “And, it must be annoying for him, because they’re all growing up — and there’s nothing wrong with American accents, don’t get me wrong — they’re all growing up with American accents now, and, I think, it’s part of his family, he’s a grandfather to these children, as well.”

Harry wasn’t asking for all that much

Pelham Turner backtracks a bit to explain what he thinks made the Queen say what she did, that Harry and Meghan couldn’t be half in, half out.

He said: “I think old style thinking is where we’ve got this situation now, I think the Queen was very badly advised, I really do, I think the Queen was very badly advised over Harry and Meghan.”

He also explained what Harry and Meghan were hoping to do and that it wasn’t unheard of.

“I think the reality is, what Harry and Meghan wanted to do, because they felt like they couldn’t live full-time in Britain, for whatever the reasons were, that they wanted to still do charity work, in Britain, and they wanted to do half and half.”
