Train passengers faced delays in the West Midlands today after a major line was blocked.

The train line between Birmingham New Street and Wolverhampton was blocked due to trespassers.

The operator West Midlands Railway said services were cancelled as a result.

The incident was first reported on X/Twitter at 7.20am this morning (April 18).

Passengers faced delays for more than an hour, with the line reopening at 9.03am.

West Midlands Railway wrote: “Trespassers between Birmingham – Wolverhampton.

“The line is blocked and services will be delayed and/or cancelled.

“We have ticket acceptance in place with @WMmetro.”

In a later message, the operator said: “Normal service between Birmingham – Wolverhampton.

“Following a trespasser on the track, the line has fully reopened and services can run as normal.”

West Midlands Railway advised passengers that they can get compensation if their service is delayed by 15 minutes or more. For more information, click here.

The operator said: “We dislike train delays as much as you do. Even small delays can have a knock-on effect on your day.

“Which is why if you hold a valid ticket for your journey, you can claim compensation for delays of just 15 minutes or more, no matter what the reason.

“The total compensation payable per day is limited to 100% of the daily cost of your ticket.”
