Manchester United waved goodbye to Victor Lindelof over the summer, but the defender remains without a club.

Manchester United allowed a number of players to leave at the end of their contracts this summer.

Christian Eriksen was the headline departure, leaving Old Trafford after three years with the club.

The Dane remains without a club as things stand, though Wrexham made an ambitious move for Eriksen this summer.

Another Scandinavian departed United as Victor Lindelof became a free agent, with his contract expiring at the end of last season.

Lindelof joined United in 2017 as Jose Mourinho raided Benfica with a move for the Swede.

Despite failing to live up to expectations, Lindelof still racked up nearly 300 appearances across eight years at Old Trafford.

Lindelof earned around £120,000-a-week at Old Trafford, and with Premier League appearances declining in recent years, United let him go.

The new season is about to start, but Lindelof is still a free agent and is searching for his next opportunity in the game.

Lindelof has now decided to train with hometown club Vasteras SK in Sweden, in an attempt to keep fit ahead of a potential move elsewhere.

Lindelof started his career with Vasteras SK, but he was quickly spotted by Benfica and whisked away for a move to Portugal.

The 31-year-old is now linking up with Vasteras SK again, as they chase promotion from the Superettan back to Sweden’s top flight.

Vasteras SK coach Kalle Karlsson has told Aftonbladet that Lindelof asked to come and train with the club, but there has been no suggestion of a transfer just yet.

Karlsson added that Lindelof might want to return to Vasteras SK in the future, and suggested that the door will always be open for him to come back home.

“It’s always fun when he’s there. He asked if he could keep going a little bit, so it wasn’t more than that,” said Karlsson.

“Only the future will tell if he ever wants to play in VSK when he has finished his international career. Then the door will always be open,” he added.

Victor Lindelof has been linked to a number of clubs

Lindelof will surely back himself to land a team with European football on offer, and it hardly seems to be the right time for a move to Sweden’s second tier.

A transfer elsewhere doesn’t appear to be imminent, though, and Lindelof has utilised his hometown club for fitness reasons as he waits on a move.

Fiorentina have been linked with Lindelof, potentially reuniting him with former United stopper David de Gea in Florence.

Besiktas and Trabzonspor have also eyed Lindelof, with former United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer potentially interested.

Lindelof was also linked with a return to Benfica earlier this year, but rumours surrounding a return to Lisbon have slowed down.

Lindelof will surely find himself a new club very soon, and United fans will keep tabs on his progress wherever he ends up – even if it does end up being Sweden’s second tier.
