Gianluigi Donnarumma is now reportedly a candidate to leave Paris Saint-Germain after the Champions League winners reached an agreement for Lille goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier.

Manchester United have been linked with signing a new goalkeeper this summer the transfer window closes. They are one club credited with an interest in the Italy international.

Donnarumma has just a single season remaining on his contract with PSG, which is still the same deal as when he joined four years ago on a free transfer after leaving Milan. Chevalier could now become the club’s new number one.

French sports newspaper L’Equipe claims the Parisian club want to complete a deal so that the France international would be available for the UEFA Super Cup on Wednesday, when they play Europa League winners Tottenham Hotspur. PSG are said to be paying around £35million – plus add-ons – for Chevalier, with now just the finer details needing finalising.

After signing Renato Marin from Roma earlier this summer, the publication acknowledges that Donnarumma is a candidate to leave. However, they state that the player will not just accept the first project on offer.

Arnau Tenas and Matvei Safonov are also goalkeepers who could depart. The latter is said not to want a backup role after making 17 appearances during his debut season at the club.

United head coach Ruben Amorim recently evaluated the club’s goalkeeper department. “I think even when you talk about Andre [Onana], you can see the goalkeepers… even Tom [Heaton] is leaner, he’s a different goalkeeper; Altay [Bayindir] did really well, and Onana is going to be better, like the other guys, this year.”

Onana is confident of being fit for United’s first match of the new Premier League season against Arsenal at Old Trafford. The goalkeeper has missed the majority of pre-season with a hamstring injury.
