RB Leipzig have sent a classy message to Benjamin Sesko as he closes in on a move to Manchester United.

Sesko flew into Manchester Airport via private jet on Thursday evening to complete his impending switch to the Premier League. The Slovenian, 22, underwent his medical on Friday and now it appears it is only a matter of time before the signing is officially confirmed.

United are set to pay the German club a fee that could reach £74million for the centre-forward after he scored 21 goals in all competitions last season. The Reds will see that deal as a coup for themselves considering they fended off interest from Newcastle for the striker.

It has been well documented that Sesko had a good understanding with his club about his future. After signing a new contract last summer, a gentleman’s agreement was reached with Leipzig that would allow him to explore a new challenge should a club he deemed to be ‘special’ produced an offer that was acceptable.

Such an offer from United was submitted and now Sesko is on the verge of being confirmed as a United player. It can be rare for clubs who are losing a major player to show good taste in their response to their player’s inevitable exit.

However, Leipzig bucked the trend on Thursday with their message to the striker on Instagram. Sharing a selection of Sesko’s in-game celebrations, and action shots, the Bundesliga club captioned the post: “Today is a great day for #AirSesko,” a clear acknowledgement of his impending exit.

Leipzig then confirmed their understanding of Sesko joining United in a squad update on Friday which confirmed the 22-year-old had been ‘relieved of first-team duties to hold talks with another club.’ Sesko’s official announcement as a United player is unknown, but may coincide with tomorrow’s pre-season clash with Fiorentina on Saturday lunchtime (12.45pm).
