England’s over 60s cricket team thrashed the USA’s over 60s in a One Day International in Buckinghamshire.
The game, played at Winchmore Hill Cricket Club near Penn on Wednesday, August 6, was the first One Day International between the two sides and was organised by Buckinghamshire County Cricket Club at the invitation of England Cricket Seniors.

It was part of a three-match series of One Day Internationals against England for the USA, with the visitors also set to face the England Lions, the country’s second team, in three more matches.
The match was attended by Earl and Countess Howe, with the Countess, in her role as the King’s Lord Lieutenant of Buckinghamshire, conducting the coin toss.
England won the toss and chose to bat, racking up their highest ever one day score of 353-7.

England captain Edward Gordon-Lennox was the top scorer with 111, while Buckinghamshire player Temoor Alam hit a quick fire 79 and Nick Gaywood added 66.

The USA team struggled against England’s strong bowling attack and were all out for 104 after losing early wickets.
P Gill was the top scorer for the USA with 43 not out, while England’s Palmer, Watson, and Deakin picked up nine wickets between them.
Palmer finished with figures of 2-15, Watson 3-23, and Deakin 4-32.
The match was streamed live on YouTube, with BBC News also attending and airing interviews with the England Lions captain, the USA captain, and a representative of Winchmore Hill Cricket Club on its news channel.
The USA team then took on the England Lions at Royal Ascot Cricket Club on Thursday, August 7.

The event also supported Ron’s March for the Bob Willis Fund, which aims to raise awareness of prostate cancer.
The cause was given a boost with a prize draw raising funds and the USA squad donating £1,500.
Ron’s March with The Bob Willis Fund is a series of walks in counties playing over 60s/70s cricket to raise awareness of prostate cancer.
So far, 40 walks have been completed, raising £74,000.
The fund was set up in memory of the former England cricket captain and Sky Sports broadcaster after his death in 2019.

It aims to support critical research into prostate cancer in the hope a nationally accessible, accurate screening programme may be introduced to save the lives of men.
The match was also attended by former England Test player Roland Butcher, who took the time to sign copies of his recently published book.
Winchmore Hill Cricket Club provided a tea and an after-match barbecue.
