Thick plumes of black smoke was seen billowing across Old Swan this morning (Sunday, August 10). Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service (MFRS) were called to a blaze on Prescot Road, Old Swan at around 10.50am.
Three fire engines attended and found a waste fire approximately 20 metres by 20 metres. It came after large plume of black smoke were seen in the area.

The fire was not affecting buildings, MFRS said and crews used two hose reels to fight the fire and protect the surrounding area. At 11.18, the smoke plume had dispersed, and firefighters used three hose reel jets to extinguish the fire.
At around 11.39am the onsite manager arrived at the scene and crews continued to damp down the affected area. The incident has been scaled down to two fire engines in attendance.
Remaining crews checked for hot spots and continued to damp down, before making up their equipment and leaving the scene at 12.50.
People contacted the ECHO to say the smoke could be seen from Childwall and parts of the city centre.
