Wildfires sweep through Spain’s Cadiz as beachgoers watch on

Helicopters raced to retrieve water from the sea off the coast of Zahara de los Atunes before heading back to Tarifa to douse the blaze. In the videos, dozens of beachgoers were seen relaxing on the beach against a backdrop filled with thick plumes of smoke.

More than 2,000 people, including beachgoers, resort guests and residents, were evacuated from Tarifa as the fire continued to spread, local officials said on Tuesday (August 12).

The fire is believed to have started on Monday morning in the eucalyptus and pine forests of the Sierra de la Plata mountains, according to official reports.
