Marco Asensio is yet to leave Paris Saint-Germain this summer, months after his loan spell at Aston Villa came to an end.

The Spaniard joined Villa at the start of February on a straight loan deal from the French giants, and started well under Unai Emery.

Asensio bagged eight goals in the space of seven games in all competitions, but then went without a goal in the next and final 11 matches he played for the club.

Here’s the latest on Asensio’s future…

Villa keen on signing Asensio

Asensio has always been in Villa’s thoughts since the end of last season, but they have had very limited flexibility in their transfer budget or wage bill.

Sales will likely be required for Villa to loosen their pursestrings and add more depth to their squad in this month, especially following the addition of Evann Guessand.

Paying Asensio’s wages at the age of 29 would be a risk, but if Villa were to pursue a move, it would be with the knowledge that they could afford to bring him back.

The Telegraph claim that Villa are exploring the conditions of a possible permanent or loan deal to sign the Spaniard again.

Villa’s president of football operations Monchi spoke about the possibility of signing Asensio to Spanish podcast El Pelotazo back in June.

“Marco Asensio hasn’t lost his talent – he’s given us a lot, and he’s in our best interest,” he said.

Fenerbahce agreed PSG deal

At the start of last month, it was reported that Fenerbahçe and PSG agreed on a deal for the permanent transfer of Asensio.

Well-connected Turkish football journalist Yağız Sabuncuoğlu reported that Fenerbahçe had taken a significant step toward signing Asensio at the time.

After reaching an agreement with PSG, José Mourinho’s side then attempted to finalise personal terms with the player.

Asensio was said to have rejected an annual salary offer of €9 million, but negotiations were ongoing.

However, since then, there has been no breakthrough in negotiations, which means his future is still uncertain.
