The Mancunian weather is known for being unpredictable, with it often swinging from pouring rain to scorching blue skies within a matter of hours. This week looks set to be one of those with the Met Office predicting highs of 31°C in some parts of the city.

That’s all well and good for those of us that have the privelidge of working in air conditioned offices, but those of us who work from home or who have relatives that don’t deal well with the heat, it can be a real problem. One easy way to help ventilate the heat out of the home is with a decent fan, one of which is currently reduced at Amazon just in time for the hot weather to hit.

Normally £32.49, the Honeywell TurboForce Power Fan boasts a powerful design while remaining quiet at the same time. It’s currently reduced down to £22.99, with shoppers able to take advantage of a 29% discount in total.

Our colleague Bethan Shufflebotham tried the fan last year. Here’s how she found it:

Last year, I was struggling to cope with the Great British Summer (I am fair skinned and ginger, after all), so I invested in a Honeywell TurboForce Power Fan on Amazon. The 4.5 star device had been hailed as ‘better’ than a Dyson, as well as ‘powerful’ for its compact size.

Originally £32.49, the fan has been reduced to £22.99, and is available on next day delivery, meaning you could be enjoying its cooling breeze by this time tomorrow. And, anyone who has an Amazon Prime account won’t need to pay for delivery, either.

No more than 30cm tall or wide, this compact fan is deceptively powerful. And while I have never tried out a Dyson fan, I don’t think I’ve any need to, because this Honeywell device does a fantastic job at keeping me cool while working from home in the summer months, and works even better at circulating air than the £20 tower fan I picked up in Aldi back in 2022.

The fan comes fully assembled making setting it up a total breeze – pardon the pun. The three-metre cable means you can place it in the perfect spot, while its 90 degree tilt allows you to achieve the optimal position for maximum cooling.

The design is incredibly sleek and minimalistic so it’s not unsightly, and it’s super lightweight so can be moved from room to room with ease -though for the price, I’d say it’s worth getting two, so that you can have one upstairs and one downstairs. I really like the portability of this fan, but if you did want something more static, it has got a wall-mount feature, or it can be used as a desk fan.

On the back of the device is a dial with three speed settings, and even the lowest has been more than sufficient for me in recent weeks. The slowest speed is near-silent, meaning that it’s ideal when I’m taking work calls in the day, doesn’t distract from watching films or catching up on Love Island, and can be used overnight while not disturbing me from my slumber.

The medium speed setting has a moderate hum, kicking out more of a draft, but still, there’s no need to reach for the volume button on the TV remote. The highest setting is louder than the rest, but no louder than other fans we’ve used over the years, and it’s more than worth it for the power. You can feel the fan from up to seven metres away, making it perfect for living rooms and master bedrooms, as well as smaller spaces.

According to Amazon, the fan has sold more than 5,000 times in the last month, with shoppers having left thousands of five star reviews, some even rating it better than their Dyson fans. One said: “Forget your Dyson bladeless. This little fan is better. So powerful for its size. No brainier just buy it. Send it back if you don’t agree, you won’t by the way.”

Another added: “Extremely quiet, even on full power. Very strong breeze, a lot better than my Dyson hot and cold fan. Cannot fault this.”

With a third commenting: “Needed a fan as I was absolutely melting this summer. Didn’t think this fan would be up to much given its size and price point but I decided to trust its good reviews and give it a go. This fan is an absolute powerhouse. Not a clue as to how it can be so powerful for its size but fair play to Honeywell it’s easily at least 10 times more powerful than the Dyson fan (really bad purchase) we also have.”

However, one didn’t like the design of the settings switch, and I’m inclined to agree. They said: “It’s a decent enough fan in terms of airflow. The main problem is the switch is in an awkward spot to turn on and off. It also, unfathomably, turns from 0-III-II-I, ie. off, full blast, medium, low. Why it was designed like this I have no idea.”

It’s a minor inconvenience for such a nifty gadget, and one I’m more than willing to look past for this sleek summer must-have. You can shop the Honeywell TurboForce Power Fan for £19.59 on Amazon here.
