Government cash is set to be requested for a project which would see the former Young Enterprise Scotland training centre in the park repurposed.

Cabinet members at East Renfrewshire Council will be asked to approve an application to the Scottish Government’s regeneration capital grant fund on Thursday.

A report to councillors states the vision is to “transform the vacant training centre over time into a pioneering community well-being and enterprise hub”.

The project would include the development of a new entrance zone from the park, a central learning area for “employability partners, schools and other educational groups” and space for entrepreneurs, start-ups and community groups.

Lighting and car parking at the main entrance would also be improved and the garden space upgraded, including repairs to the site’s glasshouses.

Officials have said the aim is to provide a place that “integrates nature, health, employability, business support, education, and sustainability to benefit local people, businesses and the environment”.

The Scottish Government fund, which involves a competitive bidding process, supports regeneration projects in local communities.

Proposals must be able to be delivered in the 2026/27 financial year and focus on areas that “suffer from high levels of deprivation and disadvantage, demonstrate clear community involvement, deliver large scale transformational change with strong regeneration outcomes, encourage additional investment and address market failure in communities”.

The council report adds the site is expected to be occupied by “community and social enterprise organisations, as well as potentially private tenants”.

Overall, the project is expected to cost around £700,000. Officials are proposing the council requests a £450,000 grant from the Scottish Government.

The remaining £250,000 would be requested from other sources, including the council’s own regeneration capital programme (£100,000), the UK Shared Prosperity Fund and East Renfrewshire Renewable Energy Fund.
