Anemone, the highly anticipated movie helmed by Sean Bean and Daniel Day-Lewis, will debut with a world premiere at the 63rd New York Film Festival.
Described as “emotional” and an “absorbing family drama”, the film is slated to land in US cinemas on 3rd October, while a UK release date has yet to be determined.
A milestone moment for Daniel Day-Lewis, Anemone, which he co-wrote with his director son, Ronan Day-Lewis, will mark the Oscar-winning actor’s first role in eight years. The Hollywood legend made his last-known appearance in 2017 with Paul Thomas Anderson’s Phantom Thread.
Following Day-Lewis’ decision to return to the screen, details surrounding Anemone have been limited, however the New York Film Festival has shed some light on the project, which is set in Northern England.

“Anemone begins as a middle-aged man (Sean Bean) sets out from his suburban home on a journey into the woods, where he reconnects with his estranged hermit brother (Day-Lewis),” the NYFF explains.
“Bonded by a mysterious, complicated past, the men share a fraught, if occasionally tender relationship—one that was forever altered by shattering events decades earlier.”

When Focus Features confirmed that Anemone was in production last year, Chairman Peter Kujawski praised Daniel and Ronan Day-Lewis for penning a “truly exceptional script” (via Deadline).
“We could not be more excited to partner with a brilliant visual artist in Ronan Day-Lewis on his first feature film alongside Daniel Day-Lewis as his creative collaborator,” he continued. “They have written a truly exceptional script, and we look forward to bringing their shared vision to audiences alongside the team at Plan B.”
Day-Lewis and Bean were spotted filming scenes for Anemone in Manchester last September. The duo were photographed riding on a motorcycle through the city, surrounded by crew members.
Anemone will premiere in US cinemas on 3rd October. An official release date for the UK is yet to be announced.
