From Lotus Biscoff shakes to burgers, there are plenty of options at Boston Tea PartyBoston Tea Party on Park Street has a new menu(Image: Bristol Live)
At 1pm the neat and orderly queue was already out of the door, down the steps and snaking along the pavement.
The Park Street branch of Boston Tea Party is as popular as ever but then this is the OG of the chain, having opened in 1995 and celebrating its 30th birthday this year.
And when it comes to brunch at Boston Tea Party, old favourites have plenty of healthy competition from exciting new menu options.
Like the Bristol cafe chain’s famous traditional cooked ‘Boss’ breakfast and more refined Eggs Royale (two poached eggs with smoked salmon, hollandaise on sourdough toast), the brunch and lunch dishes are served all day.
One of the more interesting things about Boston Tea Party is that the team behind the menu likes to tweak things as the seasons change.
Now that we’re heading from spring into summer, there’s an emphasis on lighter, healthier options.
There’s a new fruity and crunchy granola bowl on the breakfast menu comprising 100% British oat granola from Glebe Farm, yoghurt, blueberry compote, fresh banana and a sprinkling of chia seeds.
On a sunny Sunday lunchtime, we grabbed a table in the ‘secret’ garden at the back – a perfect spot for a lazy weekend brunch.

There are several new choices on the drinks list, too, from the mango and lime-infused pineapple and coconut smoothie to the summery strawberry ripple shake (fresh strawberry purée, vanilla ice cream, milk, whipped cream and freeze-dried strawberry).
For a more decadent start to the day, there’s also a Lotus Biscoff shake and Chocolate Oreo version (both £5.45) with swirls of Mr Whippy-style whipped cream on top.
Instead, we tried the Berry Peachy smoothie (£4.95) – a purple glass of blitzed blueberries, peach, banana and apple juice that was thick, fruity and screaming ‘healthy option’.
Making a welcome return due its popularity last summer is the Smoked Salmon Hash (£13) – a delicious and light dish of flaked pieces of smoked salmon with cooling crème fraiche, charred corn, sliced avocado, sweet chilli lime sauce and a hot and crisp homemade potato hash.
We also tried the new lunch dish Cauliflower Shawarma Flatbread (£9.95) – roasted cauliflower with za’atar, silky beetroot houmous, herby tabbouleh, crunchy slaw and pomegranate seeds, with a warm and soft flatbread from the Bristol-based Abunoor bakery.

Of course, it’s not all healthy options on the menu and the Boss Burger (free-range beef burger, fried egg, homemade hash brown, free-range back bacon, Monterey Jack cheese, avocado salsa and red pepper relish with fries) was certainly turning heads.
For those who want to indulge a little more, there’s also a £21.50 per person afternoon tea with cakes, scones, finger sandwiches and tea, coffee or Prosecco – these have to be booked in advance though.
And as we left, we walked past the tempting display of cakes on the counter.
We’ll be back for those – well, we notched up plenty of brownie points after our healthy, summery brunch in the sun so why not?
