UK Champs Triple Jump medallists, Bera Ajala and Silver Nwabuzor, are set to compete for Glasgow Jaguars this weekend (photos by Izzy Brider)
Glasgow Jaguars head to Alexander Stadium, Birmingham, for the final match of this year’s National Athletics League Premier Division campaign.
With other clubs using losing points in Match Two, due to the use of ineligible athletes, the match was rescored and Glasgow Jaguars are currently sitting in third and looking for a strong performance to consolidate that position.
A clash with the Scottish U20 Champs has given the opportunity for some new athletes to come into the team.
Amy Davis, gold medallist in the Island Games makes her debut in the High Jump and Donald Ross, who represented Scotland in SIAB, will compete in the Pole Vault.
Greg Mitchell makes his first appearance in the pink and black and goes in the 400m hurdles and Sonny Campbell guests in the 100m and is part of the very strong sprint relay squad.
Fresh from a gold medal winning performance in the English Champs and a bronze in the UK champs, Bera Ajala competes in the Triple Jump and makes his season’s debut in the Long Jump.
Silver Nwabuzor, also a bronze medallist in the Triple Jump in the UK Champs, will be looking for favourable wind conditions as she edges closer to the 13m mark.
With the experience of competing in the London Diamond League under his belt, Bradley Francis will be eyeing up the Scottish record and the Glasgow 2026 qualifying mark in the 400m hurdles.
A quick glance at the team sheet shows lifetime bests already recorded this season by no fewer than 20 athletes with a further eight very close to PB performances and with good conditions we hope for a few more this weekend.
Thanks to sponsors Glasgow Life and Joma whose support has allowed over 80 athletes to benefit from exposure to this high level of competition this season.
Huge thanks also to scottishathletics, whose support administratively in liaising with Power of 10 and OpenTrack has ensured the eligibility of all the athletes.
With thanks to Moira Maguire
