The fifth and final season of Netflix’s The Witcher is its final months of production with not long left to go. While we still don’t know the release date of Season 4, we continuously learn new things about the two final seasons in which Liam Hemsworth will make his debut as Geralt of Rivia replacing Henry Cavill. Today we have evidence about the largest battle in the saga.
The Battle of Brenna may be in Season 5 after all

The Battle of Brenna is the largest and one of the most significant battles in Andrzej Sapkowski’s books, but for the Netflix’s show’s inconvenience, it doesn’t feature any lead characters. Instead, it’s told from the point of view of supporting characters like Jarre and Shani. For that reason, the battle’s inclusion in the show was under doubt. But it might be included in some for after all.
For some time we’ve been hearing about extras and stuntmen being cast for The Witcher Season 5 under the names like “Temerian soldier” and “Vrihedd brigade soldier” and so on. Both Temerians and the Vrihedd brigade of Nilfgaard were among participants in the Battle of Brenna, so that makes it sound like there could be scenes of the battle. Vrihedd in the books was led by Isengrim, but we don’t know if he’s been cast in the series.
Moreover, we’ve already announced that Emily-Jo Young has been cast as Shani in The Witcher Season 5. In the battle, Shani is among the medics and her POV illustrates the horrors of war inside the medical tent.

Those soldiers and Shani pieced together, makes for a case that we’ll see the Battle of Brenna in The Witcher after all, in some form.
Plus, Coen is back for Season 4 in an unrelated original adventure involving Lambert and Vesemir with Geralt. Could Coen be back for Season 5 as well? We do know Yarpen Zigrin and Zoltan Chivay have been filming scenes for Season 5, so that’s another point there. Marti Sodergren, however, Shani’s medical colleague in the battle tent, didn’t come back in Season 4 and we don’t know about her status in Season 5.
All of that said, we shouldn’t expect a battle of such scale as seen in Game of Thrones or House of the Dragon. We haven’t seen any evidence of extensive two-four weeks long shoots outdoors with hundreds of extras, which would be needed for that kind of on-screen battle. Instead, we’d expect things to rely more on Shani, for instance and a little bit of actual fighting.
The Witcher Season 4 is in post-production for a 2025 release. Andrzej Sapkowski’s new Witcher book Crossroads of Ravens is available in Poland and will be released internationally in September 2025. CD Projekt Red’s The Witcher 4 is now in full production.
