Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust has been named a finalist in the Trust of the Year category at the 2025 Health Service Journal (HSJ) Awards and has also been recognised in the Acute Sector Innovation of the Year category.

The Trust of the Year nomination highlights the organisation’s commitment to patient-centred care, collaboration, and continuous improvement in health outcomes.

Neil Macdonald, chief executive of Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust, said: “We are honoured to be shortlisted for not one, but two awards at the HSJ Awards 2025.

“This recognition is a testament to the incredible work of our teams across the trust, who go above and beyond every day to deliver safe, compassionate, and high-quality care.

“To be recognised alongside so many outstanding organisations is a proud moment for us all.

“Regardless of the outcome on the night, we’re excited to share our journey and learn from others across the sector.

“This nomination reflects the strength of our partnerships, the resilience of our people, and our shared ambition to create healthier communities.”

The trust’s entry was selected following a rigorous judging process.

Judges were looking for organisations that are addressing key challenges in the sector, including reducing waiting times, improving clinical quality, and ensuring financial resilience, all while prioritising staff wellbeing and inclusivity.

In the Acute Sector Innovation of the Year category, the trust was recognised for its use of Quail, an AI-powered tool that processes patient feedback.

The technology delivers faster, more actionable insights from patient experience data, helping teams to respond more effectively to community needs.

The 2025 HSJ Awards received more than 1,250 entries, with only 245 projects and organisations making the final shortlist.

Alastair McLellan, editor of the HSJ, said: “On behalf of all my colleagues, it gives me great pleasure to congratulate Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust on being shortlisted as a finalist in the categories of Trust of the Year and Acute Sector Innovation of the Year.

“All of the applications represent the very best of the NHS and often leave our esteemed panel of judges with an impossible choice.

“Year on year, the number of entrants continues to rise, which I find so encouraging and is testament to the effect that HSJ Awards can have on improved staff culture and morale.”

The winners will be announced at the HSJ Awards ceremony on November 20 at Evolution London.

The event celebrates excellence in healthcare, promotes best practice, and recognises individuals and teams making a difference for patients nationwide.
