Emergency services rushed to Old Shettleston Road in Glasgow’s East End at around 3.15pm on Friday following reports of an assault.

A 24-year-old man was then rushed to hospital for treatment.

It is understood that the man was stabbed.

During this time, officers sealed off the road at its junctions with Fernan Street and Kenmore Street.

Drivers were being advised to avoid the area and seek alternative routes.

Shortly before 8am on Saturday, Glasgow City Council’s traffic control and management (TRAFFCOM) team confirmed that the road had fully reopened more than 16 hours after it was first closed.

Police say they are investigating the incident, and enquiries remain ongoing.

A spokesperson for the force said: “Old Shettleston Road has reopened following an earlier police incident.

“Around 3.15pm on Friday, August 15, officers were called to a report of an assault on Old Shettleston Road, Glasgow.

“Emergency services attended, and a 24-year-old man was taken to hospital for treatment.

“Enquiries are ongoing and anyone with information is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 2135 of August 15, 2025.”
