France defeated Spain 78 – 73 after a comeback from down 16 points at halftime during a EuroBasket preparation game that was held in Paris. On Thursday (14/8), France had also beaten Spain in Badalona.
While Spain was without Santi Aldama, Alberto Diaz, and Dario Brizuela, coach Sergio Scariolo saw Alberto Abalde and Mario Saint-Supery exiting the game early in the first quarter with injuries.
Bilal Coulibaly had 13 points and Matthew Strael scored 11 for France, which trailed 28 – 44 at halftime before turning the game upside down. Les Bleus made an impressive 18 – 3 run through the third and fourth periods to go up 73 – 67 with 3:29 to play.
Santi Yusta hit a triple for the 75 – 72 in the last minute, and then Matthew Strazel answered in the same fashion to put France up by six with 22 seconds remaining.
Yusta finished 19 plus seven assists for Spain, while Willy Hernangomez scored 15.
It was a special night for France, which honored in the game the former captain Nicolas Batum, and also Nando De Colo who both retired from the national team after the Paris Olympics.
