Dick and Angel Strawbridge have allowed fans to have an insight into their personal lives for many years. The couple were the stars of Escape to the Chateau, which aired on Channel 4 in 2016 after the couple purchased the small French castle in 2015.

The reality television series followed Dick and Angel and their family as they bought and renovated a 19th-century château in France, while raising two young children and starting a business hosting weddings and other events. It has been an incredibly rewarding period for the family since the renovation process started in series one, as the hard work has paid off.

From being uninhabitable after not being lived in for 40 years, the 45-room property is now a spectacular home, since Dick and Angel took on the project of renovating and moving in. While inviting viewers into their work-in-progress home for nine series, the couple have also celebrated special occasions and family milestones with viewers.

Fans of the two are still being surprised with new areas of the house, nine years after the property was introduced to our screens.

Earlier this year, the family took to social media ahead of their Australia adventure, saying: “It’s hard to believe that our Australia adventure is literally only a few weeks away!

“It’s been a family joke that we have been packing for months and this little video captures our excitement! Our Forever Home Tour will be full of untold stories, and behind the scenes peeks…plus this time we are shining a light on you!”

A video of the chateau was shared, with one fan asking about a certain area, the Instagram user wrote: What’s the recent addition at the rear of chateau? Are there any posts about this on Instagram? I can’t seem to find anything. Thanks.”

Another fan replied: “I just did a deep dive and couldn’t find anything on it either. It looks stunning!” The Strawbridge family Instagram account responded: “It’s the winter garden! It was featured in series 9 – we’ll have to share some pics soon.”

The “Winter Garden” appeared on the show in 2022, but was an extension to the castle. Chateau de la Motte-Husson is a small French castle, surrounded by a moat located in Martignè-sur-Mayenne, a small village near Laval. For centuries it belonged to a French branch of the noble Italian Baglioni family.

The couple purchased a Victorian conservatory. On Villa Dorica’s website, it says: “Only in 2022 Dick, after seeing photos of our Aphrodite winter garden on our page on the The World of Interiors index, contacted us and in record time we designed, built and delivered the structure in time to be assembled for the recording of the 7th episode of the 9th and final season of Escape to the Chateau.

“After the TV series was archived, our winter garden did not lose its function: it will continue to be used as an atelier for photos of the castle’s brides and to show itself off even for future generations of Chateau guests.”

Dick and Angel and their two children, Arthur and Dorothy, have now lived at the property for over a decade and are still putting their stamp on the place. They often share snaps of their stunning gardens on their social media pages and a recent photo gave fans a glimpse of their rarely-seen vegetable garden.

The secluded part of their outdoor area is located a few steps away from the chateau. The allotment-style garden is entirely separate from the main part of their chateau garden. Dick and Angel gave an exclusive interview with HELLO! in 2023, in which they revealed that their idyllic chateau is their ‘forever home’.

The Channel 4 reality stars bought the magnificent property for £280,000. Explaining their decision to wrap up Escape to the Chateau, the couple confided to HELLO! in 2023: “It was two years ago that we decided to end the Escape to the Chateau series.

“We made the decision because the kids are growing older, and all the parallel activity was not sustainable at this level. We are doers and we are never going to stop completely, but we’re also protecting them.

“Arthur is starting senior school and the pressure on our little ones is phenomenal. When he goes there, people may have heard that his parents have done stuff on television.”
