Tipsbladet claim that the Blues have offered up to €20m (around £17.2m) to Danish club Nordsjaelland and that the two clubs are in ‘positive negotiations’. They claim that a deal is not yet done, however, and that there are some ‘sticking points’ that need to be sorted,

It comes after news that the 19-year-old was a target for PSV Eindhoven, but the report claims that the Dutch Eredivisie side are now ‘out of the picture’ for a move.

Egeli, a winger who can play on either flank or up top, came through the ranks at Norwegian Eliteserien outfit Sandefjord before joining Danish Superliga club Nordsjaelland in 2023, having bagged 10 goals in 41 appearances in that time.

He is now a senior Norway international, having made his debut against Kazakhstan earlier this year.

Town’s reported interest in Egeli comes following the departures of Nathan Broadhead (Wrexham, £7.5m) and Omari Hutchinson (Nottingham Forest, £37.5m), leaving them short of depth out wide.

Alex’s verdict

Coming from what looks to be a reliable Danish source, it would suggest that Ipswich are continuing to expand their foreign recruitment. They have already signed Azor Matusiwa and are closing in on Como’s Ivan Azon, and this would be another big step.

I can’t say that Egeli is a familiar name, but a few YouTube highlight clips show an exciting player – a real threat in the box who enjoys cutting inside and taking on defenders. If a deal looks set to materialise, there will be plenty of time for a proper deep dive to analyse his strengths and weaknesses.

Having only turned 19 in June and with limited top-level experience, a move to England would be a risk, but he’s highly spoken of, which is echoed in the reported fee.

It would be the biggest sale in Nordsjaelland’s history, one of the largest in Danish football history, and could break the Championship transfer record (currently Mike Tresor to Burnley for €18m, per TransferMarkt). It remains to be seen whether the reported €20m is an initial fee or after add-ons.

Egeli also wouldn’t count towards Ipswich’s 25-man squad limit as he is under the age of 21, allowing for more flexibility in further recruitment.
