Alice Askew, who was born in North Devon in 1868, spent around 50 years in March, making significant contributions to the town’s photographic history.
David Edwards, archivist of March Museum, presented an engaging talk on Alice’s life and work, showcasing a variety of her photographs taken each year between 1919 and 1949.
In 1913, Alice became the manager at Messrs Brown & Co, a photography shop on Broad Street.
She purchased the business in 1916 and became the photographer for The Cambridgeshire Times.
In December 1929, a fire damaged the original premises, prompting Alice to relocate the shop to a corner of St Peter’s Road.
