London North Eastern Railway (LNER) are offering funding towards environmental projects as part of their Customer and Community Investment Fund.
They can award up to £10,000 for projects along the East Coast Main Line which align with LNER’s better for the planet values.
Any good causes and charities looking to establish and develop environmental projects are being encouraged to apply before the 25th of August.
Applications need to be submitted alongside information on how the funding would be used and how that would benefit the area.
The previous year’s funding has gone towards restoring an area of wetland in County Durham. The Great North Fen Project saw that grassland was reseeded, hedgerows restored, and new pond habitats created to help support a range of invertebrates, birds and mammals.
The project also funded a wildlife haven created by the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust
Further information on the investment fund can be found online.
“The work funded by LNER is the first step in delivering the vision for the Great North Fen—an area of wildlife-rich wetlands, woodlands, and farmland that could extend over 850 hectares. Partners like LNER are helping nature recover and are creating better environments for both wildlife and people.”
Rachael Wilson, Community Investment Manager at LNER, said: “We welcome applications from charities and groups that want to improve both the environment and the local community. I’d encourage any group based within 15 miles of the East Coast Main Line—if you have an idea for a project that would positively impact both wildlife and people—to apply for funding from the Customer and Community Investment Fund. We’re looking forward to learning more and seeing how we can support you.”
