Goncalo Ramos insists he will be staying at Paris Saint-Germain this season despite interest from Newcastle United.

The Magpies are on the hunt for additional attacking reinforcements with Alexander Isak’s long-running saga ongoing and Callum Wilson still not replaced at the tip of Eddie Howe’s attack.

After missing out on Benjamin Sesko, Joao Pedro and Hugo Ekitike this summer, PSG forward Ramos has emerged as a late summer target among St James’ Park talent spotters.

However, despite starting just 16 times last summer and facing a battle to leapfrog Ousmane Dembele, Desire Doue, Bradley Barcola and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia in the PSG pecking order, the forward is keen to stay at the Parc des Princes beyond the summer window.

“I’m ready when the team needs me. When I receive the ball like that, I score,” Ramos said after scoring against Tottenham Hotspur in the UEFA Super Cup this week.

“Yes, I confirm that I am staying [at PSG] this season.”

Newcastle remain interested in Brentford’s Yoane Wissa, with confidence the Congolese forward will be playing in black and white beyond August.

United started their Premier League campaign away at Aston Villa with Anthony Gordon as a makeshift centre-forward.

And Howe knows an attacker is needed before the end of the summer window to ensure his side are capable of fighting on four fronts this term.

“We have been looking to sign a striker all summer,” he told reporters on Friday morning.

“We lost Callum Wilson at the end of last year, so a striker was a necessity for us all through the window, and that has not changed.

“We are still in that position. For loads of different reasons, we have not been able to sign one (a striker).

“But we still have time.”
