Shoppers looking to take their health and fitness to the next level would do well to invest in a smart watch that comes with plenty of fitness tracking features. Especially for those who already own an iPhone, Apple’s range of smart watches are some of the highest-rated around, but new models can come at a fairly expensive cost.
However, savvy shoppers will be pleased to learn that there are plenty of savings to be had by opting for slightly older models, with one such device currently available for £99 instead of £249 over at Wowcher. Undercutting the cheapest brand new Apple Watch SE model by over £120, this renewed Apple Watch Series 5 strikes the perfect balance between features and price.
Wowcher is selling these Apple Watch devices as renewed, which means they’ve been previously owned and restored to their original state by professionals. They may show a few signs of cosmetic wear, but the watch otherwise works exactly as it did out of the box.
I used to own this model of smart watch myself after it was originally released in 2019. My most-used features were the fitness tracking, which used GPS and heart rate sensors to track both my location and biometric data and synced it to my health apps like Strava and Apple Health.
It’s also capable of tracking sleep data when worn overnight, providing an insight into how well its wearer sleeps – an especially useful feature during the warm weather we’re currently having. Its battery life was sometimes a pain point with it needing a top up once per day, but it’s a small price to pay given how well it integrates with the rest of the Apple ecosystem.
Pair this smart watch with an iPhone and it’s able to take calls, respond to messages and notifications all without needing to get your phone out of your pocket. It’s also got Apple Pay built in, letting its wearer use contactless payments with ease.

Wowcher doesn’t have any reviews of the refurbished Apple Watch Series 5, but it is listed as a ‘verified product’ which should give shoppers some confidence. Customers who’ve bought a refurbished device from Amazon have left their thoughts, though: “Although described as very good condo it was in excellent condition. Well packed and delivered on time. Battery holds charge for 24 hours and despite being second hand.”

Meanwhile, a second shopper added: “So happy with it, nicely packaged with everything you need and so much cheaper than buying a refurb from Apple!” A third reviewer writes: “Watch is refurbished but you would think it was brand new and works perfectly.”
However, shoppers always run the gambit when buying refurbished tech as you can never be quite sure what level of quality you’re going to get. Some customers ended up drawing the short straw on some occasions, with the disappointed shoppers saying: “Been informed that the battery say its fully charged from charged, but soon drops dramatically once taken off charger. It started playing up early this year.”
A second customer left their thoughts, saying: “Product looked great and arrived quickly, however battery health was only 75% and says it requires a service.”
