The lunacy of the pursuit for green energy knows no bounds, as evidenced by the excellent letter last week (“Loss of farmland”, Gazette, Thursday, August 7).

That Monk Sherborne is threatened with a massive solar farm is bad enough.

Few, however, will know that the proposed carpet would be equivalent to nearly 60 football fields; think on that for a moment.

I once asked an economist where original wealth is generated.

Quick as a flash, he responded “Mining, followed by agriculture”.

Bizarrely, the current minister for energy security and net zero proceeds in the opposite direction, whereas we should be drilling for oil, fracking for gas, and investing in research for energy alternatives.

And, all the while, the percentage of carbon dioxide in our atmosphere is a minuscule 0.04 per cent.

Think on that just a bit longer.
