Cutlers Hill Surgery, off Bungay Road, Halesworth has received the go-ahead from East Suffolk Council to develop five new clinical rooms, clean and dirty utility rooms and an accessible toilet.

The extension had to be adapted to accommodate space limitations created by the presence of an electrical pole, therefore the new development is at an angle to the main building.

However, access to the extension will be through the existing surgery ensuring a seamless integration with the current layout.

In a statement with the plans, the applicant’s agent Chaplin Farrant said: “The extension adopts a straightforward and functional design with a pitched roof that matches the existing building.

“A link corridor with a flat roof connects the two structures.

“It will be red brick with roof tiles to match the existing. For clarity, the extension is shown shaded in the above image.”

The plans received the backing of Halesworth Town Council, although the authority raised some concerns about parking provisions.

In a statement, the council said: “No objections, the town council fully support and are pleased to see the extension, but are concerned the current number of car parking spaces will not be sufficient.”

A yew tree will be removed to accommodate the extension, but three small native trees will be planted across the site to offset the loss.

The agents added: “The building serves as an existing GP surgery providing healthcare for the local population.

“This application seeks to expand the existing facility to accommodate a growing patient base and improve healthcare standards, ensuring improved compliance with regulatory requirements.”
