Art: What Lies Beneath

Janet Pierce has always gone her own way

Janet Pierce has always gone her own way

In 1973, Janet Pierce had her first solo exhibition in the Everhart Museum in Scranton, Pennsylvania. Her most recent solo show is now on view at the Ballinglen Arts Foundation, Co Mayo, and Pierce has exhibited throughout Ireland, the UK, the US, Portugal and India.

She was exhibiting even earlier. Born in Edinburgh, Pierce, aged nine, did a series of drawings of Burmese dancers and “to my amazement, the teacher put 12 of them up on the wall”.
