A child ended up in hospital after being badly beaten up when around 30 youths were fighting and running amok in Cabot Circus in Bristol on Friday night. Police are investigating the incident, and appealing for witnesses to come forward and speak to them, as the victim of the assault is recovering.

The incident happened at around 8.30pm on Friday evening (August 15) in the shopping centre, at the end of George White Street, the main middle entrance to the centre from Broadmead. Police said they were called by security who reported ‘around 30 youths’ – both boys and girls – were fighting.

It is the latest in an almost annual report of teenagers running amok with violence and anti-social behaviour in Cabot Circus and Broadmead. Two years ago, people visiting restaurants in the shopping centre told Bristol Live of how a ‘feral, savage mob’ of up to 100 youngsters engaged in a violent spree one Saturday evening.

The incident this month happened on Friday night. A Facebook post sharing images from phone video of the incident had been shared widely in Bristol with a call for people to identify the perpetrators of the violence, which left a young teenager in hospital.

A spokesperson for Avon and Somerset police also appealed for anyone with information about who was involved to call them. “We responded to a 999 call from security at Cabot Circus reporting that around 30 youths, both boys and girls aged in their mid-teens, were fighting at the end of George White Street at around 8.30pm on Friday 15 August.

“One person, who is also in their mid-teens, was punched and kicked several times during the incident. The victim suffered injuries to his face and neck and was taken to hospital for treatment and is making a recovery. We understand the victim and the group were known to each other and do not believe there is any wider threat to the public.

“CCTV enquiries have been carried out and anybody who witnessed the incident, or those who may have information on who was involved, are urged to call us on 101 quoting 5225231172, or complete our online appeals form.”
