Dr Davies is a registered practitioner psychologist with a wealth of experience in the health and social care sector.

He began his NHS career as a clinical psychologist before taking on the role of director of psychological services in two NHS trusts.

The new Care Dorset director has held several senior roles, including chief operating officer at a UK adult social care company, managing director of mental health at the charity Turning Point and CEO at POhWER, which provides advocacy to people in the health and social care system.

Dr Davies said: “I really like the way Care Dorset talks about the social care challenges – grasping nettles that need to be grasped.

“We need to be thinking about reablement and extra care, rather than just more care homes.

“I like that Care Dorset is open, assertive and innovative about reaching for these solutions.”

He is also a non-executive director at Black Country Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust and the Patient Advocate Certification Board in the USA.

Care Dorset’s chair, Caroline Tapster, said: “It’s wonderful to welcome Dr Davies to the board.

“His expertise and his obvious concern for the wellbeing of the people we support is a huge boost.”
