Salford Red Devils v Warrington Wolves

Crisis club Salford Red Devils have bolstered their playing group by signing four players on loan, including two from Super League leaders Hull KR.

The Red Devils cancelled their most recent game, with Sunday’s fixture against Wakefield Trinity pulled on the grounds of player welfare.

Salford argued that just two of their available squad had Super League experience and that saw them withdraw from the match with the RFL still to determine the outcome, though it’s expected the Red Devils will be handed a 48-0 loss.

A statement from Salford released on Monday night confirmed their intent to fulfill Friday’s fixture against Leigh Leopards as they insisted they would have a squad and they’ve now added to that by loaning in four players from Super League rivals.

Hull KR have sent two players, Leigh Leopards one and last week’s proposed opponents Wakefield Trinity have also sent one.

Salford Red Devils make four loan signings

All four men have joined on initial one-week loans as the gaps are plugged in their struggling squad which has lost 16 players this season, with Joe Shorrocks the most recent exit. The forward has joined Leeds Rhinos on loan for the remainder of the season.

As for the additions at Salford, they’ve brought in Hull KR second-rower Leon Ruan and centre Louix Gorman, both of whom have spent time away from Craven Park on loan already this season.

Ruan joined from Leeds Rhinos but is yet to debut for KR whilst Gorman did feature in 2023 but has been on loan with both Featherstone and London this season.

Former Hull KR man Neil Tchamambe, who was set to debut for Wakefield against Salford last week, is another with the powerful winger adding to the Red Devils’ options in the backs.

As will Jack Darbyshire, a centre from Leigh Leopards who has spent the season on loan at Rochdale Hornets. He will be eligible to face his parent club Leigh on Friday night.
