David Brown was found to have put patients at risk by not maintaining records and lying while working at Ipswich Hospital, run by East Suffolk and North Essex NHS Foundation Trust (ESNEFT), between May 2019 and April 2020.

Mr Brown had been hired to fill a position at ESNEFT’s Oncology Dietetic Team, working with cancer and motor neurone disease patients, which was available due to secondment.

Those actions include failing to record full information from his appointments with 18 service users and provide full documentation about interventions with 14 patients, waiting five months before logging a patient appointment and claiming to have visited a patient, despite them dying a month beforehand.

As a result of the tribunal hearing, held on Tuesday, August 12, Mr Brown has been banned from serving as a medical practitioner from Friday, September 5.

“His management of service users who were vulnerable, and in some cases frail, exposed them to the risk of harm.

“Similarly, it was decided the public would be concerned if a practitioner who had ignored the wellbeing of those under his care, and had been so neglectful of his responsibilities over such a long period of time, were to be allowed to continue in practice without some form of restriction on his practice.”

ESNEFT said that as Mr Brown was no longer employed by the trust, and hasn’t been since April 2020, it would not provide a comment.
