Paul McCartney seems to be hinting at a new announcement involving The Beatles famous anthology series, The Beatles Anthology.
McCartney shared four images to his Instagram on August 19th which seemed to pay tribute to the series. His post consisted of four images, each of which contained the isolated numbers “1”, “2”, “3” and “4.”
While it’s not completely clear that these numbers pertain to The Beatles Anthology, it looks as though images from the bands three-volume set of double albums can be found inside the numbers on the screen.
No date or time for an announcement has been included with the images. There is speculation that the cryptic clues could be pointing towards the previously released anthology TV documentary being re-released on Disney+, given footage from the documentary was restored and used on the streaming services most recent Beatles documentary Beatles ‘64.
The original Anthology documentary was released in November 1995. It was made up of interviews with the band as the members themselves were able to provide a narrative on the history of the Beatles. Archival footage of their live performances and rehearsals also featured in the film.
The first album in the anthology series, Anthology 1, came out at the same time as the documentary. Meanwhile, the next two records, Anthology 2 and Anthology 3, weren’t released until a year later in 1996.
It’s still unclear what McCartney is alluding to with these cryptic images, but fans will continue speculating until more information is available.
This is a developing story.
