Coronation Street spoilers follow.

Coronation Street star Jonathan Howard has warned of “very dangerous” times ahead for Carl and Abi Webster, as scheming Tracy Barlow uncovers their affair.

This Friday’s episode (22 August) sees Abi face her worst nightmare, as Tracy confronts her for cheating on Kevin.

While Kevin is away on holiday, suspicious Tracy spots Abi and Carl kissing as she spies on them through the window of the Webster house.

Tracy, who’s been trying to pursue Carl herself, is naturally intrigued by her discovery and how she can best work the situation to her own advantage…

Speaking at an exclusive photoshoot for the Inside Soap Awards 2025, Jonathan told us: “In the next few weeks, the wheels will come off. People will start to find out along the way – and not just the affair with Abi! There’ll be some other surprises that Carl has been hiding in his cupboard.

“When the affair starts to come out – and Tracy in particular will discover this affair – Carl is new to Weatherfield so he doesn’t really know who this she is!

“Abi, however, does know who Tracy is and is definitely warning Carl that Tracy is here to disrupt, she can’t be trusted and she’s very dangerous.

“I’ve also recently found out that she’s killed people! So I think Carl is being a little bit naïve when he thinks he can control and have power over Tracy…”

Asked whether Carl will regret his behaviour if he tears his family apart, Jonathan replied: “Potentially! Carl lives very moment to moment. Right now, he is very much in lust with Abi. But I think he’s got a short attention span.

“When he realises the wreckage he’s going to cause in the family, I hope he’s going to feel some remorse for it.

“He gets a little mixed up with the love/lust split. I think because he grew up without his brother and sister in his life – and with a mother who didn’t necessarily give him the love that he would want – his idea of love is a bit skewed. I don’t know if he’s really experienced pure love before.”

Jonathan was chatting to celebrate his nomination in the Best Newcomer category at this year’s Inside Soap Awards. Check out our video at the top of the page for a full look at how Inside Soap’s glamorous photoshoot came together behind the scenes (click to go full-screen).

Discussing his nomination, Jonathan enthused: “It was such a lovely surprise – very unexpected and I’m in really good company, so I’m very grateful and happy.

“Ryan Mulvey who plays Brody is also up for Best Newcomer and we share a dressing room together. He’s a delight, so if I don’t win this, I would love for Ryan to win it.

“In my humble opinion, people should be voting for Coronation Street over any other soap because it is the longest-standing soap. It’s been around since 1960.

“Anywhere you go in the world, people have heard of Coronation Street. I live in the States, and even in the US, people know what Coronation Street is. It’s part of the fabric of Britishness.”
