Celtic faced the Kazakh side in the first leg of their Champions League play-off clash.

But on a night where Hoops fans might’ve hoped to see a few goals, they struggled to make a breakthrough.

Many Celtic fans have been frustrated by a perceived lack of transfer activity this summer, with manager Brendan Rodgers also calling for more reinforcements.

And as the Hoops players laboured and struggled to make a breakthrough against their opponents, the fans made their feelings clear.

They weren’t at all happy with what they were seeing on the pitch.

They loudly chanted ‘sack the board’ and also aimed chants towards chairman Peter Lawwell and chief executive Michael Nicholson.

TV pictures then cut to the two Hoops chiefs in the stand as the fans vented their anger.

The chants were audible as Celtic brought on Arne Engels, a club record £11m signing last summer.

The same chants were heard after the final whistle, a whistle that confirmed a 0-0 draw.

The supporters inside Celtic Park also loudly booed.

The Hoops, meanwhile, suffered a major injury blow during the game.

That’s after Alistair Johnston had to be stretchered-off in the first half.

The right-back went down clutching the back of his leg as he burst forward.

Johnston, 26, appeared to suffer either a hamstring or muscle injury and was visibly in pain.

He was able to give a thumbs up to the Celtic fans who applauded him off as he left on the stretcher.

Johnston later re-emerged in the dugout during the second half.

But in a worrying sight for Celtic fans, he was spotted with clutches.
