Sheffield United have had a terrible start to the Championship season. SUFC have lost both their fixtures so far, and it hasn’t been the start that new head coach Ruben Selles would have hoped for.
Selles must strengthen his defence if he is to get his side contending for promotion this season. Star man Anel Ahmedhodzic left Bramall Lane to join Feyenoord, and the back four is currently their weakest area of the pitch.

The Blades may have found their new centre-back to replace Ahmedhodzic though, with reports suggesting they are turning to a fellow Championship club’s player to reinforce their defence.
According to Football League World, Sheffield United are setting their sights on Millwall centre-back Japhet Tanganga in their search for multiple new defenders.
The 26-year-old has a £1.2m release clause that can only be activated by Premier League clubs, so SUFC will have to pay a larger fee if they are to secure his signature. Millwall have already rejected offers for Tanganga from several Italian clubs this summer.
Japhet Tanganga would add Championship quality to a struggling Sheffield United defencce
Tanganga has been a standout performer for Millwall in the Championship and has been a focal point for their success. The 26-year-old was the Lions’ player of the year last campaign and would be a big miss if he were to leave this window.

Selles could do with some proven Championship quality, and the former Tottenham man would offer that and more. It has been no secret that the defender wants to return to the Premier League, and Sheffield United do have a more realistic chance of getting there before the South London outfit does.
Sheffield United won’t want to overspend this transfer window, and it would likely cost them less than £6m to attain the centre-back’s services. It does seem a smart deal for the Blades to pursue.

Sheffield United are desperate for a central defender
Sheffield United may regret not having an immediate replacement for Ahmedhodzic lined up, considering their early-season struggles. Selles will want more than one centre-back arriving at Bramall Lane before September 1st to compromise this.
The Blades are strongly pursuing Malmo defender Nils Zatterstrom, along with Coventry City defender Bobby Thomas. It was reported that an £8m bid was submitted for the 24-year-old’s services.
Jack Robinson and Tyler Bindon are currently the starting central defenders for SUFC, and the two probably aren’t up to the standards required to compete for a place in the top six. The Blades have lacked depth for a while in the centre of defence, so they must invest properly within the next two weeks.
