Despite her young age, Victoria Mboko is a threat for the US Open Ladies’ Singles title.
The 18-year-old star sent shockwaves through the WTA Tour recently, defeating four Grand Slam champions on her way to the Canadian Open title.
Mboko, who was recently told of her ‘number one asset’ before the US Open, will play at a Grand Slam tournament as a seeded player for the first time in her career, something she described as ‘insane.’

Mats Wilander, a seven-time Grand Slam singles champion, has identified the two most important qualities a tennis player can have while discussing Mboko’s game.
Wilander claims Mboko possesses both of these qualities.
Mats Wilander says Victoria Mboko possesses ‘the mind and movement’
The hype surrounding Victoria Mboko is understandable considering her recent success and sharp rise up the rankings in 2025.
Mboko was ranked 333 on the WTA Tour at the start of 2025, and now finds herself ranked 24th.
Wilander, who won the 1988 US Open Men’s Singles title, has certainly bought into Mboko’s potential stardom.
On TNT Sports, Wilander said: “The two most important things in tennis is the mind and movement, the two big M’s, and she has both of those.

“You’re going to have good days and bad days when it comes to hitting forehands and backhands, but your mind and movement will never be bad if you’re good at it.
“And I think that’s what she has. She’s an unbelievable athlete and she’s an unbelievable fighter, and I think that’s why she’s going to stay at the top.”
Mboko sits at 25 in the WTA Finals race
Victoria Mboko has an opportunity to strengthen her position in the WTA Finals race at the US Open.
The Canadian star sits in the 25th position, having won 1,430 points so far this year.
Remarkably, Mboko has achieved this amount of points despite only playing six WTA Tour-level tournaments so far in 2025.
Of the top 100 players in the WTA Finals race, only France’s Lois Boisson has played fewer WTA Tour-level tournaments than Mboko in 2025 (six).
