Wrexham have made a touching gesture ahead of their meeting with Sheffield Wednesday.

The Dragons’ second home league fixture of the campaign is due to take place on August 23.

Wrexham play Sheffield Wednesday in a 3pm BST kick-off and Phil Parkinson’s side are predicted to win.

But the potential outcome of the fixture has become a sidenote in the last day or so.

Wrexham were criticised ahead of Sheffield Wednesday for not allowing the Owls’ Supporters Trust to bring banners into the ground as part of the protest – a decision that has since been walked back by the club.

Wrexham released a statement on the protest issue, confirming that Wednesday fans can now hang a banner in the away end.

It came after fans and the Dragons’ Supporters Trust sent messages to their club expressing their disappointment.

Now, co-owner Rob Mac has detailed the classy gesture made by his club going into the match.

In response to Wrexham fans being encouraged to join in with the Sheffield Wednesday protest by wearing their old gold kit, Rob has confirmed that any profit made on the old away shirts until Monday will be donated to the SWST.

He wrote: “There are 10k more gold shirts available. The profits from any gold shirt purchased between now and Monday will go to Sheffield Wednesday ST #upthetownS”

A number of fans showed their support as well. One wrote: “Thanks Rob, really appreciated. We are all one in football.”

Another added: “Wrexham owners doing more to help understand fans of Sheffield Wednesday in 10 minutes than the owner of Sheffield Wednesday has done in 10 years.”

“@RMcElhenney class act. Us Wednesday fans can only dream of owners that Wrexham have. Not only looking after your own club but supporting other footballing communities like ours too,” a third stated.
