A Midlands town has been named second in the entire country for an underrated day out.

Whether it’s a trip with the family, or a visit for a couple or friends, there’s plenty to enjoy in Leamington Spa.

That’s according to experts, who analysed towns across the country which may not always get the attention they deserve.

They may also get overshadowed by bigger cities nearby.

And that can be the case with Leamington, just 35 minutes from Birmingham by train and around a 55-minute drive.

The Warwickshire town was placed second on a list of most underrated places to visit in the country, behind only Hastings.

Leamington scored high in terms of cultural landmarks, with 96% having a four-star rating or above.

While the number of top restaurants, independent shops and music events makes it an ideal place to visit.

It was placed second on the national list following research by Betway.

They said: “Royal Leamington Spa secures second place thanks to its standout cultural landmarks (96% rated four stars or above), such as the Royal Pump Room, and quality food scene (79% of restaurants rated four stars or above).

“With an average summer temperature of 16.3C and 33 music events on the calendar, it offers the perfect mix of culture, cuisine, and entertainment.”

Another Midlands town also made the list, with Shrewsbury getting recognition in third place.

The spokesperson said: “Shrewsbury in the West Midlands comes in third place with 84% of its landmarks rated over four stars, including gems like Shrewsbury Castle and historic abbeys, and a lively arts scene with 46 upcoming music events.

“It also has 18 independent shops in its charming centre, making it the perfect destination for those seeking both culture and shopping.”
