West Ham have started the Premier League season in the worst possible fashion under Graham Potter.

Potter’s men fell apart against Sunderland on the opening day, succumbing to a 3-0 defeat at the Stadium of Light.

Now, after West Ham were dismantled 5-1 by Chelsea at the London Stadium, the situation is looking incredibly bleak.

Despite his goal on Friday, Lucas Paqueta has underwhelmed in both matches and has now posted a strange message on social media.

Jamie Redknapp called out West Ham’s defence after their humiliating defeat to Chelsea, but in truth, it was a team effort.

The Hammers took the lead in the sixth minute through a Paqueta belter, but Joao Pedro pegged them back minutes later.

After having a goal ruled out by VAR, things became dire for the Irons as the Chelsea goals kept flying in at the London Stadium.

West Ham’s defending was questioned against Sunderland, and they completely failed to address those concerns.

Paqueta was at fault for two goals, beaten at the near post by Marc Cucurella for the Blues’ first before being outmuscled for their second.

Now, the midfielder has posted the following message on his Instagram account in Brazilian on 23 August, clearly failing to read the room.

He said: “It’s about pointing to the one who deserves to be glorified and exalted, regardless of the circumstances, God.”

Lucas Paqueta needs to inspire the Hammers on the pitch

While the 27-year-old may have scored a screamer, the rest of his performance was significantly below par.

The Brazilian is one of the highest-profile players within Potter’s squad and should be spearheading a revival.

Instead, he is making costly mistakes, and they are seeping through the rest of the Irons’ team.

The fixtures do not get any easier for the East London club, and after a Carabao Cup tie with Wolves, they face Nottingham Forest, Tottenham, and Crystal Palace.

Now, Paqueta must forget social media and show he cares about West Ham with performances on the pitch.
