When Prince Harry and Meghan Markle broke the news to Prince William that they were expecting their first child, just a few months after their Windsor nuptials, he had only four words in response.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex revealed Meghan’s pregnancy at Princess Eugenie’s wedding to Jack Brooksbank in October 2018. In his memoir ‘Spare’, Harry reminisces about the moment he informed his elder brother of his impending fatherhood during the wedding reception at St George’s Hall in Windsor.
He penned: “We were in a big room, suits of armour on the walls. Strange room, strange moment.”

This comes as Prince Harry discreetly left a letter at a Royal event in a significant bid to mend the ongoing feud.
Harry remembered William’s reaction to his announcement, saying he smiled and simply said: “We must tell Kate.”, reports the Mirror.
He also described the Princess of Wales’ response, stating she was thrilled by the news.
In his autobiography, he wrote: “She also gave a big smile and hearty congratulations. They both reacted exactly as I hoped – as I’d wished.”
The couple also shared their pregnancy news with King Charles at the wedding.
The Duke of Sussex mentioned that the monarch was “delighted” upon hearing the news, writing: “Just before a drink reception for the bride and groom, we cornered Pa in his study. He was delighted to learn that he was going to be a grandfather for a fourth time; his wide smile warmed me.”
Meghan Markle welcomed her first child, Prince Archie, into the world on 6 May 2019 at London’s Portland Hospital, just six months after her wedding. In his memoir, Prince Harry candidly shared his nerves leading up to the birth of his son.
In an attempt to soothe his nerves, Harry opted to use the nitrous oxide intended for Meghan. However, as Meghan’s labour progressed and intensified, Harry found himself in a bit of a pickle for having used up all the gas.

He penned: “When her contractions began to quicken, and deepen, a nurse came and tried to give some laughing gas to Meg. There was none left. The nurse looked at the tank, looked at me, and I could see the thought slowly dawning: Gracious, the husband’s had it all. Sorry, I said meekly.”
Fortunately, the situation was swiftly rectified with a replacement canister. Meghan managed to see the humour in the situation, prompting Harry to add: “The nurse had to laugh, and quickly changed the canister.”
Since then, the Sussexes have expanded their family with the arrival of their second child, Princess Lilibet. She was born at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital in California on 4 June 2021, a year after they stepped back from Royal duties and moved across the pond.
